Background: SCCM 1710 / 1709 ADK, running a task sequence specifying a 64 bit MDT boot image with OS Version 10.16299.15 and client version 5.00.8577.1005. I have seen around 25% of computers that had a required TS deployment start from windows or USB (when the USB drive had an older boot image, necessitating the download of the new boot image and a restart) sitting at a blue windows 10 'Choose your keyboard layout' screen. When I select US, and then Continue, they start the task sequence normally. Other options at that second screen are 'Use a device', Troubleshoot, and 'Turn off your PC.' I watched the USB bootable media PCs this morning immediately show this screen upon restart; this was the first time I was in the room for it to happen. Has anyone seen something similar, or have any recommendations? I'm going back to my previous boot image for now, to confirm I don't see this behavior with that, as I had not prior to SCCM 1710 and ADK 1709.
Thanks in advance! EDIT: When I tried my previous boot image, I had errors attempting to apply driver packages like: Argument 3 is invalid. ParseArguments( argc, argv, eDriverOperation, sPackageId, pBootCriticalInfo, bAllowUnsigned, bBestMatch ), HRESULT=80070057 (e: ntssccmrelease sms client osdeployment osddriverclient osddriverclient.cpp,341) Failed to pass arguments. Code 0x80070057 Exiting with return code 0x80070057 Process completed with exit code.
I have this logged with MS Premier support - and just pointed him at this link. Suggest you log it if you have support. Current thinking it's when (certain) Windows updates are pending. Also when it does fail SMSTS.log has this in it. 11:43:32.959 TSManager 8164 (0x1fe4) The action (Restart in Windows PE) initiated a reboot request 11:43:33.225 TSManager 8164 (0x1fe4) Execution engine result code: Reboot (2) 11:43:33.225 TSManager 8164 (0x1fe4) Task Sequence Manager ServiceMain finished execution.

When you assign a static IP address to WinPE in either an automation partition or a boot disk, it fails, attempting to use DHCP even though static was assigned. In this case, the standard options within DS and Ghost 3.0 are used to assign an address rather than any custom methods (there are other articles mentioning how this may be done outside the DS/Ghost console). The option to configure this in DS/Ghost is under the BootDisk Creator, step 3 of 7 where you choose a Static configuration rather than the default DHCP configuration. Though saved in the appropriate files, the automation image will still request and use DHCP. Some situations where a single NIC is being used have been resolved in Ghost Solution Suite 3.0 HF2. For more information on HF 2 see For versions prior to that or systems with multiple network cards here's a workaround: To verify the Interface name follow steps 1 and 2 STEP 1 - Boot the client machine in Automation STEP 2 -Run the below command to find the correct name of Interface.
